The cost of a data breach is hefty and climbing—averaging $4.45 million in 2023, up from $4.35 million in 2022, according to the IBM Security Cost of a Data Breach Report 2023.

Organizations have many options for how to mitigate data breach costs, and the most effective are the adoption of a development, security, and operations (DevSecOps) approach, employee training, and incident response planning and testing. Incident response plans can save an organization upwards of $232,000 on the cost of a breach, the IBM report tallied.
