09/13/2012 -

Originally delayed because of Hurricane Isaac response operations, theFederal Emergency Management Agencyreleased a series of PSAs on Thursday as part of their Ready campaign and National Preparedness Month.

“This year’s wildfires, the derecho, and Hurricane Isaac are all important reminders that disasters can happen anytime, anywhere,” FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate said in apress release. “By taking steps now to prepare for emergencies, we ensure that our families and communities are prepared to respond and recover from all types of disasters and hazards.”

The Ready campaign, the most successful Ad Council campaign ever, encourages citizens and business to “make preparedness a year round activity” and emphasizes putting together an emergency supply kit, making a family emergency plans, staying informed of the type of emergencies possible in the area and response activities, and getting involved in activities that support community preparedness.

The five PSAs, themed “You Never Know When the Day Before is the Day Before,” feature “real people and emergencies that have occurred.” They can be viewed online at theAd Council’s YouTube channel. The entire Ready campaign includes radio and TV spots, and outdoor ads.

"Most of us think about preparing for a disaster when we are in the middle of one," said Susan Credle, chief creative officer, Leo Burnett, in the release. "By emphasizing that the time to prepare is on an ordinary day like today, we hope people and communities will be safer if and when that fateful day comes."
