Agencies Release Guidance Mass Casualty Events

07/17/2012 -

The Department of Homeland of Security and the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), supported by the DHS Office of Health Affairs and the National Emergency Medical Services Management Association have put together the 170-page guide to provide a template for emergency responders to build plans to prepare and react for mass casualty events.

“The goal of this project was to develop a foundation for further development of EMS-specific policies and templates that improve readiness to manage the full spectrum of hazards that face communities,” says a press release distributed by USFA.

The guide covers natural disasters, pandemics events, and other emergencies that would affect large amounts of people using scenarios including local high school football games, residential care facility evacuation, and large sporting events.
