Hola!

I had the honour to help represent ASIS International at the ASIS Montevideo, Uruguay Chapter 284 Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM) workshops held 8-9 November, 2018. As winner of the ASIS Foundation’s 2017 Roy Bordes Security Education Grant, the chapter was chosen to conduct the education program of their choice. When they selected ESRM as their desired topic, two ASIS International Board members—John Petruzzi, CPP, and myself—and ESRM Program Management Office director Rachelle Loyear, MBCP, CISM, were asked to present the workshop sessions.

The program drew attendees from seven other South American countries, making this an amazing opportunity to deliver ESRM education to a wide array of Latin American members. Representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay attended the workshop and experienced two days of ESRM training—as well as some exciting social events.

Chapter chair Antonio Romanelli, CPP, did a fantastic job as host, making us feel right at home—and very spoiled! We were impressed with the event logistics, the beautiful location, and the warmth of the sponsoring Chapter Committee. We had a chance to make so many new friends and hear how passionate these members are about our Society and our shared profession. I’m happy to say our more than 200 attendees are now evangelists ready to lend a hand any way they can to keep moving the ESRM message forward.

As I look back at some of the great photos taken at the event, it strikes me how engaged our attendees were! JP, Rachelle and I have presented ESRM topics at many events in our careers. The folks at this workshop asked lots of insightful questions, wanting to hear our thoughts and opinions on how we achieved success and how we learned from our failures. It’s even more impressive to consider there were two translators who did real-time translation between English and Spanish! That just drives home the fact that we truly are a global organization moving our profession forward.

Please browse pictures from the sessions and other moments we presenters won’t soon forget. I’m proud to have been part of this event, I’m proud of my fellow presenters, and I’m proud of the work that was done to bring it all together. I may have to update my travel plans—there are some new friends down South I need to visit someday soon!
