Your Monday GSX Guide

With thousands of people in attendance, hundreds of security exhibitors on the show floor, and dozens of education sessions throughout the day, there’s a lot happening at GSX 2022 today.

Here are some of the highlights that you won’t want to miss whether you’re in Atlanta in person or attending digitally.

General Session: 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. ET

GSX 2022 kicks off with some remarks from ASIS International 2022 President Malcolm C. Smith, CPP, and ASIS CEO Peter O’Neil. They will also recognize the 2022 ASIS International President’s Award of Merit recipients.

Then in the keynote address, Mateo Salvatto, head of innovation, ORT Schools, and CEO of Asteroid Technologies, will share his journey of transitioning from an average high school student into one of Argentina’s most respected businessmen with the creation of Háblalo, an app that assists more than 250,000 people globally who have hearing loss and verbal communication disabilities. Prior to arriving in Atlanta, Associate Editor Sara Mosqueda interviewed Salvatto about his work and how designing an application that enables communication between people empowers the world.

The General Session will be livestreamed and available for all GSX Digital attendees.

Exhibit Hall Opens: 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. ET

With numerous exhibitors, education sessions, and networking opportunities, you’ll want to dedicate a chunk of your time to exploring the exhibit hall in Atlanta. To make the most of your time, check out our “Show Floor Survival Guide,” courtesy of a GSX veteran, view our GSX 2022 Product Showcase, watch the special SM Live broadcast, and share what you’re seeing and learning on social media by using the hashtag: #GSX2022.

Also take some time to stop by Career HQ in booth 717 on the show floor. They’ll be offering free career coaching, reviewing resumes (registration recommended), and providing education sessions on managing your career path.

Additionally, GSX Digital attendees will be able to livestream broadcasts from the UnCrewed U and X Stages on the Exhibit Hall floor.

Education Sessions Start: 10:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. ET

Along with the action in the exhibit hall, GSX 2022 has a plethora of education sessions today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, highlighting all aspects of security. Search by topic, speaker, or track by using the official Session Guide or in the GSX 2022 smartphone app.

Additionally, block off time for a panel conversation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in room 314 on whether armed police or security are an effective solution to preventing and responding to violence in hospitals. One of the panelists, Marilyn Hollier, CPP, security consultant at Security Risk Management Consultants, LLC, spoke with our podcast host, Chuck Harold ahead of the session. Listen to their conversation here.

Also at 2:00 p.m. today, reputation management expert Lida Citroën will share insights on how to effectively build and maintain trust as a security practitioner in a gamechanger session in rooms 304 and 305. Earlier this year, we spoke to Citroën about what a personal brand is and how security managers can build and manage their own.

GSX Digital attendees will have the option to livestream select education sessions.

ASIS Security Industry Book of the Year Signing: 11:00 a.m. - Noon ET

To help the next generation of security practitioners and emergency managers, a group of experts collaborated on the second edition of Principles of Emergency Management and Emergency Operations Centers, this year's ASIS Security Industry Book of the Year Award winner.

Editors Michael J. Fagel, PhD, CEM; Rick C. Mathews; and J. Howard Murphy will be in the ASIS bookstore (located in the lobby of the Georgia World Congress Center) at 11:00 a.m. ET today to sign copies of their book, while supplies last. Read our interview with Fagel about how the book evolved and what the award means to him and his co-editors.

Exhibit Hall Happy Hour: 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. ET

Sponsored by Smiths Detection, the Exhibit Hall Happy Hour will be open to all GSX attendees and take place throughout the hall.

Evening Events: 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET

If you’re a NextGen Community (formerly the Young Professionals Community) or Women in Security Community member or supporter, you can wind down the evening at either of their happy hours. The NextGen event is sponsored by Securitas, and the Women in Security event is sponsored by Apple. Prior registration to attend either happy hour is required.

GSX Digital Rebroadcast: 8:30 p.m. - Midnight ET

To ensure that GSX Digital attendees around the world are able to participate in GSX, regardless of the time zone they're signing on from, ASIS will be rebroadcasting Monday's General Session from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET. The session will be followed by rebroadcasts of select education sessions from 9:45 p.m. to midnight ET.

Additionally, by downloading the GSX app—from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store—all attendees can browse sessions, create their learning agendas, connect with exhibitors, and engage in networking discussions.
