ASIS News: ASIS Call for Volunteers Opens as GSX Nears
ASIS Call for Volunteers Is Now Open
ASIS International is a vibrant global community of 34,000 security professionals, and active involvement is the single best way to maximize the value of your membership. Whether you're brand-new to the industry or have spent decades as a security management professional, your perspective and expertise are valued and needed.
Volunteering with ASIS is a chance to build meaningful connections with fellow professionals, sharpen your leadership skills, and give back to the global security community.
Recognizing that your time is valuable, ASIS offers flexible roles across a range of commitment levels—from a few hours to a year-round leadership seat. Contributing content such as articles or reviews (up to 5 hours) is a great way to get involved, or you can step into a more visible role by presenting or authoring webinars, sessions, or publications. If you're ready for a deeper commitment, join a working group or committee tackling a specific industry challenge (up to 25 hours), or take on an annual leadership role in program management, council or committee leadership, or strategic governance.
Most volunteer positions open during ASIS’s Annual Call for Volunteers, running 15 August through 15 October. If you’re interested in a Global or Regional Board position, note that those applications close 21 September.
Invest in your career and elevate the security profession. Explore the open roles today and find the opportunity that aligns with your goals and availability.
GSX Is Just Around the Corner
Global Security Exchange (GSX), powered by ASIS International, is right around the corner!
GSX will take place September 14–16 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and via the online GSX event platform, and this year’s lineup is nothing short of exceptional—featuring visionary keynotes, cutting-edge education sessions, and opportunities to connect with the global security community.
This year, more than 200 education sessions address key security challenges spanning executive protection, governance, information security, intelligence, investigations, organizational resilience, site security, supply chain security and personnel security.
“These disciplines do not operate in isolation anymore,” said 2026 ASIS President Eddie Sorrells, CPP, PCI, PSP, in a recent article for Security Systems News. “GSX is one of the few places where you can move between those worlds in a single day and walk away with cross-disciplinary exposure and a network of peers you can call on throughout the year.”
GSX continues to deliver fresh value for attendees, introducing three Interactive Workshops built for deep, real-time engagement. These workshops are designed for practitioners who want more than a presentation—they want to leave with tools they can use immediately.
For the second year running, GSX attendees can access real-time translation for over 30 sessions in more than 60 languages via Wordly. If English isn't your first language, that removes a notable barrier to high-value security education.

Experience Atlanta the ASIS Way
Landing in Atlanta for GSX? Don't just go from hotel to convention center. ASIS President Eddie Sorrells, CPP, PCI, PSP, has been visiting Atlanta since he was a kid, and he has put together a local's itinerary. Take a look at some of his recommendations to complete your stay in the city.
Hungry? Sorrells suggests southern comfort food at Silver Skillet, an Atlanta institution since 1956 that's been featured in Remember the Titans and Anchorman. Sports fans can catch a Braves game at Truist Park and hang out at The Battery beforehand. Sorrells recommends closing out the day with chili dogs and onion rings at The Varsity, where U.S. presidents and Hollywood stars alike have dined.
