Industry News: Nashville DOT Keeps Modernizing Its Transportation Operations Center
Nashville Department of Transportation Improves Security of Critical Traffic Infrastructure
In Nashville, Tennessee, the city’s Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) recently finished installing an update to its Transportation Operations Center. The center, which opened in October 2024, houses the region’s most advanced traffic management systems.
In the effort to maintain the center’s modernity, NDOT completed a rollout of a new set of more than 1,000 cabinet locks made to secure signal cabinets, Intelligent Traffic System boxes, and other technology that supports critical traffic infrastructure—such as neighborhood school zones and iconic intersections in downtown Nashville.
NDOT selected ALCEA 75481 Series Traffic Cabinet Locks as part of a multiyear search for a locking system that could adapt with the city’s evolving needs. Along with high-security mechanical protection, the locks provide electromechanical capabilities for full audit trails, managing permissions, and providing real-time accountability for each keyholder. Whether the keyholder is city staff, a field technician, third-party contractor, or consultant, each person receives a unique credential that is tracked and must be revalidated regularly, preventing key duplication.
