Certification Profile: Ranjiv Abraham, CPP, PSP

Ranjiv Abraham, CPP, PSP, has long had an interest in technology and systems, but he did not always see how that could tie into the security industry. Abraham started his career in technical support before relocating to Doha, Qatar, just over 20 years ago. In Qatar, Abraham saw the growing demand for advanced security solutions in the technological sphere.

“I was drawn to the critical role security plays in safeguarding people, assets, and information, and I saw it as a field where I could make a meaningful impact,” Abraham says.

Since transitioning to the security sector, Abraham has developed a passion for innovation and leadership in the security sector. His desire to evolve as a security professional drew him to ASIS and the association’s learning, networking, and certification opportunities.

In 2023, Abraham decided to pursue the Certified Protection Professional (CPP®) certification both to help him develop professionally and to validate his industry expertise. Through the process of studying for and earning his certification, Abraham expanded and deepened his understanding of the security industry.

“Certification provided me with a comprehensive understanding of security management principles and best practices, giving me the confidence to tackle complex challenges in my field,” he says. “It has also enhanced my credibility among peers and clients, opening doors to leadership roles and recognition within the industry.”

Abraham now works in the security surveillance industry in Doha, overseeing advanced security systems and solutions. In this role, he manages large-scale projects that integrate cutting-edge security technology to improve security outcomes.

Abraham earned his Physical Security Professional (PSP) at the beginning of May 2025. He felt the PSP certification could help elevate his skills and validate his experience. Abraham specifically recommends the certification for fellow system engineers and technical professionals.

"PSP is more than just a credential; it serves as a benchmark for professionals involved in the design, consulting, or advisory roles within physical security systems," Abraham says.

When Abraham joined ASIS, the local chapter in Qatar was dormant and in need of revitalization. Abraham willingly took on that role, leading the charge to revitalize the chapter. He took on the role of chapter chair in 2023 and worked to re-engage the members in the chapter while also organizing events like the Qatar Security Professionals Meetup to draw in new local members.

In addition to his role as chair, Abraham served as a mentor and participated as a shadow instructor for official CPP review courses.

“The connections I’ve built through ASIS have been invaluable, providing me access to a global network of security professionals,” Abraham says. “ASIS has also been a platform for lifelong learning through certifications, workshops, and conferences like GSX. On a personal level, the sense of belonging to a community that shares my vision and values has been incredibly rewarding.”

Abraham’s efforts to revitalize the Qatar chapter were hugely successful, and the chapter won an Outstanding Revitalized Chapter Award at Global Security Exchange (GSX) 2024. Through his leadership and the hard work of the entire Qatari chapter, ASIS now has a vibrant and impactful community in Qatar.

“What I’ve enjoyed most is the opportunity to mentor and inspire others, fostering a collaborative environment where members can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the security community,” he says.

Abraham remains committed to fostering connectivity, innovation, and excellence in the security community in Qatar. In the future, he hopes to position Qatar as a center of excellence within the security industry in the Middle East. In particular, Abraham highlights the need to mentor and uplift the next generation of security professionals.

“I believe that through shared knowledge and innovation, we can set new benchmarks for excellence and create a more secure future for everyone,” he says.
