Industry News: Historic Helsinki Rail Station Locks in Added Access Security

The Helsinki Central Railway Station Selects Assa Abloy for Retrofitting Historic Site’s Locks

More than 250,000 people travel through the Helsinki Central Railway station every day. This Finnish landmark, which has been in use for more than a century, recently underwent several renovations.

One of the renovations included an update to the station’s locking system, which both preserved a part of Helsinki’s history and ensured the safety of the station’s residents and visitors. The station’s project manager, Jani Jääskeläinen, selected Assa Abloy’s PULSE system for retrofitting the station’s locks while complying with the strict regulations established by the Finnish Heritage Agency. The system allowed the locking system to be updated by replacing the lock cylinder, which preserved the original appearance of the doors, according to Jääskeläinen.

The system allows for individual access rights, meaning that a single key works with all of the station’s locks. This makes authorized access easier for the different office spaces, restaurants, cafes, and stores that also operate inside of the train station.
