Industry News: German Airport Uses Hybrid Model to Update Its Video Surveillance System
New Airport Surveillance Balances Compliance and Budgets
The Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport serves as a regional transportation hub in the East Westphalia-Lippe region of Germany, providing a connection for tourists and businesses. Scheduled and charter flights, business, private, and cargo traffic rely on the airport for their respective needs, making it a crucial element in Germany’s infrastructure, as well as a major regional employer and mobility partner.
To meet the shifting requirements of the German Aviation Security Act, airport needed to modernize its video surveillance system. The result had to provide efficient monitoring of critical areas, including the airport’s apron, access roads, car parks, and terminal entrances across more than 65,000 square meters.
To achieve this, Dallmeier and systems integrator HORN Sicherheitstechnik created a solution that allowed the airport to gradually migrate to IP-based components without immediately replacing existing analog technology. The project offered a hybrid system architecture that combined existing analog components with modern IP cameras. Dallmeier recording appliances—including the DMS 2400 and IPS 10000—handled video recording, offering simultaneous operation of analog and IP technologies.
While various camera styles provided surveillance throughout the airport, the number of cameras required was reduced without sacrificing the field of view or image quality. The deployment saved the airport money on installation costs, operational costs, and ongoing maintenance.
Dallmeier’s products meet all German Aviation Security Act requirements, as well as those laid down by the EU General Data Protection Regulation, supporting deployment in critical infrastructure environments.

Brady Corporation—an identification, safety, and productivity solutions provider—completed the purchase of Honeywell Technologies’ Productivity Solutions and Services business in an all-cash transaction valued at $1.4 billion. The sale was part of Honeywell’s shift to focus on autonomous solutions. On Brady’s end, the acquisition is expected to give the company access to a $9 billion productivity solutions market, specifically mobile computing, barcode scanning, and RFID.

ASSA ABLOY’s acquisition of cabinet and door hardware manufacturer Classic Brass Inc complements the company’s products and solutions portfolio.
Leonardo DRS // Raft LLC
Leonardo’s U.S. subsidiary, Leonardo DRS, signed a definitive agreement to purchase Raft in an all-cash transaction worth $450 million. The acquisition aligns with Leonardo’s efforts to deliver integrated mission solutions to customers. Raft provides open-architecture software, artificial intelligence (AI), and data integration capabilities. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions, is expected to close by the end of 2026.

3DX-Ray is expanding its security detection capabilities with the acquisition of ClanTect, a specialist developer of human presence technology. The move will expand 3DX-Ray’s portfolio of solutions that detect and identify threats across various operational environments.

SwiftConnect is purchasing HID’s Workforce Business Unit, including HID SAFE, a platform for automating identity lifecycle management in the physical world, to provide physical access governance on a single platform.

The move is expected to expand Allied Universal’s electronic monitoring capabilities across North America, providing clients with a broader portfolio of related solutions, experts, and support.

According to Interface Systems’ 2026 Restaurant Security Benchmark Report, the main causes of security breaches and events are loitering, violence, staff safety, and medical emergencies. The study analyzed 1.1 million monitoring events from nearly 3,400 U.S. restaurant locations. Loiterers and panhandlers (49.8 percent) and disturbances (21.5 percent) accounted for more than 70 percent of reported high-priority events.
INTERPOL’s 2026 African Cyberthreat Assessment Report warned that AI is involved in 55 percent of reported cybercrime cases throughout Africa. Reported losses from cybercrime incidents increased from $192 million in 2024 to $484 million in 2026, with actors increasingly using AI to automate attacks, improve social engineering, and generate more convincing content. The report drew on survey data from 36 African member countries.

Construction sites. Boon Edam, Inc., partnered with Sitemetric to produce a full-height turnstile that is mobile and can be customized to accommodate various environments or stages of construction projects.
UAS. Drone autonomy software company Swarmer, Inc., entered a strategic partnership with Oak Grove Technologies. The joint effort will combine Swarmer’s autonomous software with Oak Grove’s uncrewed aerial systems to deliver solutions for U.S. defense, training, and national security missions. After integrating Swarmer’s software into Oak Grove’s Chimera platform, integration, testing, and operational fielding were completed in 2025 in Eastern Europe.
Workplace violence. Beebe Healthcare partnered with safety technology company Canopy to issue frontline staff members wearable duress buttons that can be pressed to immediately alert colleagues and security that help is needed.
Benign bots. Cloudflare, Inc., introduced a new campaign in partnership with major Internet browsers Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge to develop a privacy-first protocol for the Internet. The protocol would be designed to distinguish legitimate and authorized users from malicious bots or abusive traffic.
