Industry News: MetLife Stadium Implements Bespoke Surveillance System

MetLife Stadium Creates Bespoke Surveillance System with Axis Communications

As one of the largest stadiums in the world, MetLife Stadium welcomes and hosts thousands of people year after year. Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the site regularly is the scene for National Football League (NFL) games and concerts. In 2013 it was the first NFL stadium to achieve the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SAFETY Act certification.

When the stadium’s security team  decided to update its surveillance solution, it found that none of the out-of-the-box solutions it found on the market would provide sufficient coverage and the desired level of video quality. Ultimately, MetLife Stadium leaders decided to work with Axis Communications, which offered a custom solution with a new camera that provided full visibility throughout the entire bowl of the stadium, as well as advanced video analytics solutions.

The new solution features optimal performance in a stadium setting, adjusting to various lighting conditions, and electronic image stabilization capabilities that keep an image steady even when the crowds go wild. Other features include a custom-made lens for 8K resolution, recording images in a wide dynamic range, high-contrast video, and advanced and complex video analytics. The new camera also integrates with MetLife Stadium’s current security stack, including its video management system, other technology partners, and local public safety agencies.

The stadium’s security team is considering adding to the solution, potentially streamlining visitors’ ability to enter the stadium and prevent bottlenecks at entrances, exits, and amenities.
