ASIS News: New Cannabis Security Standard, Plus Upcoming Events

Cannabis Security: Setting The Highest Standard

The U.S. cannabis industry is rapidly expanding, and the expanding market comes with expanding risks. The cannabis market in particular faces unusual challenges because its primary product has an illegal status at the federal level, which requires the industry to operate primarily in cash.

In addition to the added security risk present in the industry, many governing bodies have greatly varied security requirements and standards for businesses operating within their jurisdictions, and many of these required measures don’t entirely correlate with Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM) principles. As such, ASIS sought to create a holistic standard for cannabis-related organizations throughout the supply chain that detailed ESRM-aligned risk mitigation strategies.

The newly released ASIS Cannabis Security Standard provides a detailed outline for developing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality protection measures in a cannabis security program. The standard’s annex also provides details on specific components of physical protection systems that can be used in cannabis security and provides some options for consideration.

The standard is available now for purchase, with ASIS members receiving 50 percent off the printed edition or the eBook for free!
