ASIS News: New ASIS Research and Upcoming Events
The Essentials of Access Control
ASIS International recently released The Essentials of Access Control: Insights, Benchmarks, and Best Practices. This report was developed from a survey of more than 1,000 security professionals, and it is designed to provide benchmarking for access control systems and to determine what makes an access control system effective.
Effective access control is a crucial component of any physical security strategy. Access control is often a combination of both security policy and procedure and specific technologies designed to regulate access into a facility. This report can help a security team assess its existing access control policy and make improvements to align with industry best practices as needed.
In addition to the report itself, which is available for free, ASIS brought together a panel of security experts to discuss key findings from The Essentials of Access Control study in a recent webinar. You can watch a recording of this webinar here.
Join in the Season of Giving
The ASIS Foundation is a charitable organization that helps to both advance the security industry through research and to advance individual security professionals with certification scholarships.
Foundation research—including the Empowering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Corporate Security report released in January 2023—is only possible because of the generous contributions from donors.
With the generous donations provided by our members, the ASIS Foundation was also able to grant more than 30 individual certification scholarships and 20 Chapter Grant Certification Starter Kits.
During this season of giving, the Foundation asks you to consider making a contribution to help further the mission of the Foundation and to advance both the security industry and the people who make our industry thrive.
Attend Leadership Exchange
Are you an ASIS volunteer? If so, register for Leadership Exchange! Leadership Exchange is an annual event hosted by ASIS International designed to dive deeper into ASIS initiatives and strategic directions. This year, Leadership Exchange will be open to all ASIS volunteers.
The event will take place virtually over three days, from 30 January to 1 February. Each day will consist of one 90-minute session via Zoom. You are encouraged to attend all three sessions, but if you are unable to attend one live, they will all be recorded so you can review at a different time.
The first session, taking place on Tuesday, is titled “Engaging the Next Generation of Members and Volunteers.” It will focus on how to engage a younger audience in ASIS activities. As part of the session, a generational expert will be sharing their academic research and how it can apply to ASIS.
Wednesday’s session will detail ASIS International’s new strategic plan, which has been developed based on input from members, volunteers, and leadership. This session will be more workshop-oriented, so you are highly encouraged to share your own ideas and insights.
The final session of the week will be the first Volunteers’ Town Hall of 2024. The meeting will include messages from the different governance boards as they share their goals for the coming year.
