Get Fit and Give Back

The 2023 ASIS Foundation Fitness Challenge is now live! You can join your security colleagues from across the world to support the ASIS Foundation—just by going for a jog. You can walk, swim, bike, or run to contribute to our 34,000-kilometer goal.

First, go to the Fitness Challenge website to register. Donate $25 or more and set your personal fitness goal for the 10-week challenge. You can also set up a personal fundraising page and invite friends, family, and coworkers to sponsor your fitness challenge.

You can participate individually, join an existing team, or start your own! Fitness Challenge teams are a great way to get involved with your local chapter or to bond with your Subject Area Community. You can see the existing teams (and their standings) here.

If you already track your fitness with a Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin, or other fitness tracker, you can sync your device with the Fitness Challenge using the CharityFootprints app. You can also choose to enter your steps manually. You can track any steps you take between 6 June and 15 August, so there’s no time to waste!

If you are biking, swimming, or doing some other form of non-step-based exercise, you can convert your exercise to steps with this chart.

Be sure to share your progress—you can share your Fitness Challenge experience on social media with the hashtags #ASISonthemove and #ASISFoundation. On your mark, get set, go!

Success at Security LeadHER

Hundreds of security professionals gathered in Nashville, Tennessee, earlier this month for the inaugural Security LeadHER conference. More than 300 attendees of all backgrounds and genders attended to discuss and work towards advancing, connecting, and empowering women in security.

The event kicked off with a stirring keynote address from author, renowned speaker, and sought-after consultant Eliza VanCort on how to “Claim Your Success – Stand Tall, Raise Your Voice and Be Heard.” After VanCort’s keynote, programming split off into two tracks focusing on Leadership and Security & Innovation, before the attendees gathered for a final keynote presentation from diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) practitioner, spoken word artist, emcee, and poetry specialist Charity Blackwell.

“Eliza [VanCort]’s insights on communication were incredibly helpful, and I walked away with many new communication tools,” said Antoinette King, PSP, founder of Credo Cyber Consulting LLC and event co-chair for Security LeadHER. “The education sessions were super insightful. Our closing keynote, Charity Blackwell, was simply masterful. I left the conference with so much excitement for the future of our industry!”
