ASIS News: New Executive Protection Standard, Global Events, and More

Groundbreaking Executive Protection Standard Sets Industry Best Practices

Executive protection (EP) is top-of-mind for many corporate, governmental, and celebrity figures today after a number of high-profile incidents in recent years. Now, organizations and EP professionals can leverage a new standard with comprehensive industry best practices for protecting executives and high-profile individuals through the ASIS Executive Protection Standard, launched 23 September.

The Executive Protection Standard was developed by a team of industry experts and practitioners, drawing on their extensive experience and knowledge to create a robust framework to address the unique challenges faced by EP professionals. The standard establishes a comprehensive program framework to align strategic objectives with protective operations.

“This standard reflects the collective expertise of seasoned executive protection professionals who understand that effective protection requires more than just physical security. It demands strategic thinking, meticulous planning, and seamless coordination,” says Charles Tobin, chair of the technical committee that developed the standard. “We’ve created a practical roadmap that will elevate the entire executive protection industry while ensuring consistent, professional approaches to safeguarding our most valuable assets—the people who lead our organizations.”

The Executive Protection Standard includes comprehensive needs analysis and security risk assessment methodologies, strategic program frameworks, personnel management and operational planning guidance, protective operations procedures (including intelligence gathering), and program evaluation and continuous improvement processes.

Celebrating 70 Years of Innovation, Education, and Global Impact with GSX

ASIS International turned 70 years old this year, and so does our annual event! Now dubbed the Global Security Exchange (GSX), this event has long established itself as a premier international forum for security education, networking, and innovation, bringing together security professionals from nearly 100 countries.

“This diversity is both a testament to the universal importance of security and a reflection of GSX’s core objective—unifying security and business professionals under a shared mission: to elevate the industry through education, collaboration, and innovation,” wrote ASIS Chief Global Learning Officer Christine Murphy Peck, CAE, in a recent article for International Security Journal.

GSX continues to innovate on behalf of its attendees and the security industry. This year, attendees can leverage Wordly and their smartphones to translate 35 selected education sessions in real-time, either into an audio translation or captions.

“This feature ensures that language barriers do not hinder the sharing of ideas, enabling attendees from around the world to fully engage with content and collaborate across borders,” Peck wrote. “This digital transformation is emblematic of GSX’s broader ethos: embracing innovation and experimentation to create greater access to professional development tools within the security profession.”

Operation Career Change: New Resources for U.S. Coast Guard Veterans

ASIS continues to expand its resources for military and law enforcement veterans seeking to transition to private security. The latest addition to ASIS’s Operation Career Change—a set of free, veteran-developed tools—can help former U.S. Coast Guard professionals translate their skills, align core values with career paths that matter, and find a new sense of purpose in the private security industry.

The latest tools are tailored for commissioned officers, warrant officers, and enlisted officers. Access them online here.

“Earning my CPP certification and utilizing ASIS’s Operation Career Change resources were invaluable in my transition from the Coast Guard after 20 years of service to my new role as a security director for a large multinational company,” said Jeff Garvey, CPP. “While the military provided significant training and experience, the ASIS resources helped me translate those skills into the language of corporate security and identify areas where I could strengthen my knowledge. These tools were essential to my successful transition.”
