What is the State of Occupational Fraud?

Between January 2022 and September 2023, occupational fraudsters caused total losses of at least $3.1 billion, according to a biannual report from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

The ACFE’s 2024 Report to the Nations examined 1,921 cases from 138 countries and territories to better understand the state of reported occupational fraud globally. The ACFE defines occupational fraud as “the use of one’s occupation for personal enrichment through the deliberate misuse or misapplication of the employing organization’s resources or assets.”
