Cyberattacks on healthcare organizations aren’t just an inconvenience—they also impact patients’ safety and care. More than 80 percent of healthcare providers had at least one cyberattack between March 2022 and March 2023, according to a Proofpoint and Ponemon Institute survey.

Among healthcare organizations targeted by cyberattacks, the average total cost of the most expensive incident was $4.9 million, and the costlier attacks resulted in an average of $1.3 million in disruption to normal healthcare operations.
