Infographic: Who Owns Gas Pipeline Development?
More than 250 companies are developing natural gas pipelines, dominating the oil and gas sector in energy transmission. Global gas pipelines either in construction or pre-construction stages make up more than 82 percent of global energy pipelines, according to the Global Energy Monitor.
Recent international incidents—notably the war between Russia and Ukraine—have highlighted countries’ dependence on oil and gas producing giants and the strains that serious political disagreements can levy on those relationships.
Outside of North America, almost every company significantly involved in gas pipeline development in 2020 were state-owned.
