ASIS Shines a Light on Security Stars

As in previous years, ASIS takes time during GSX to recognize the invaluable efforts of ASIS members across the globe with awards that mark and spotlight their hard work, dedication, and achievements that contribute to the professional security industry.

ASIS recognized the following members with individual awards for their achievements during the past year at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, 13 September, at GSX 2022.

๐Ÿ† President’s Award of Merit ๐Ÿ†

Brigadier General Ahamed Mohammed Abdi, CPP, PCI, PSP, and Danny Y. Chan

Issued and presented to the recipients by the ASIS president, this award honors an individual member for distinguished service, achievement, or contributions. This includes significant contributions to the knowledge of the profession, literature of the profession, outstanding service to ASIS, and/or service to other organizations affiliated with the security profession.

 

๐Ÿ† Don Walker CSO Center Security Executive Award ๐Ÿ†

Michael Brzozowski, CPP, PSP

This award is bestowed to a senior-level executive who has demonstrated a commitment to the security management certification, education, and the standards and guidelines for the executive management level of the security discipline within a specific enterprise.

 

๐Ÿ† E.J. Criscuoli, Jr., CPP, Volunteer Leadership Award ๐Ÿ†

Stephen P. Somers, CPP

The Volunteer Leadership Award celebrates an ASIS member who exhibited selfless devotion at the volunteer level, emphasizing significant contributions at the chapter and regional levels throughout an extended period of time.

๐Ÿ† Ralph Day Memorial Security Officer Heroism Award ๐Ÿ†

Aaron Wallace Salter, Jr. (Posthumous)

This award recognizes an officer who exhibited outstanding service or acts in the security profession. The honor is meant for those who perform a heroic act involving circumstances where a private security officer risks his or her life to save another. It is bestowed by the ASIS Security Services Community.

Aaron Wallace Salter, Jr., was a security officer killed while protecting shoppers and staff from a gunman at a Tops Friendly Markets grocery store in Buffalo, New York, on 14 May 2022. Prior to his security officer role, Salter served as a Buffalo police officer for three decades.

 

๐Ÿ† Roy N. Bordes, CPP, Community Member Award of Excellence ๐Ÿ†

Inge Sebyan Black, CPP

The Community Member Award of Excellence recognizes an ASIS member who exhibited selfless devotion as a volunteer, emphasizing substantial contributions at the community steering committee level throughout an extended period of time.

 

๐Ÿ† Women in Security Global Community Karen Marquez Honors ๐Ÿ†

Antoinette King, PSP, and Suzanne T. Scarlett, PSP

This honors an ASIS female security professional who has consistently worked for the betterment of the security industry.

๐Ÿ† Young Professional of the Year Award ๐Ÿ†

Hari Pratap Singh Shekhawat, II, CPP

This award recognizes an ASIS member under 40 years of age who demonstrates dedication to the industry with strong leadership, teamwork, and innovation while continually developing his or her knowledge and experience.

ASIS also recognizes the following outstanding chapters for their accomplishments throughout the past year.

Jamaica and Phoenix chapters

This award recognizes outstanding chapters that provide security practitioners with timely and relevant resources, helping promote excellence in the security management profession worldwide.

 

๐Ÿ† Chapter Communications Award ๐Ÿ†

Lima, Peru; Switzerland; Venezuela; and United Kingdom chapters

The Chapter Communications Award encourages the creation and improvement of overall communications to chapter members through a newsletter, social media, website, e-mail, or other forms of communication.

๐Ÿ† Outstanding New/Revitalized Chapter Award ๐Ÿ†

Mid-Michigan Chapter

This award praises the outstanding excellence, motivation, and service exhibited by chapters that have been in existence for fewer than five years or have been recently revitalized.

Lima, Peru, and Phoenix chapters

The Chapter Community Service Award honors an outstanding community-based activity that complements and supports the goals and mission of ASIS while increasing chapter awareness within the local community.

Guardsman Group of Companies

The PCB Organizational Award of Merit honors an organization that has displayed outstanding leadership and commitment to the professional development of its own security professionals through pursuit of certification. Renee Menzies-McCallum, group director, Guardsman Group, accepted the award at GSX 2022.

 

๐Ÿ† ASIS Foundation Public Private Partnership in Excellence Grant, in honor of Matthew Simeone ๐Ÿ†

Antwerp SHIELD, Belgium

This award is presented to a public-private partnership between a full-service law enforcement agency and a private organization that demonstrably improves public safety and private security. The partnership must be currently active and in operation for at least one year.

 

๐Ÿ† Security Industry Book of the Year ๐Ÿ†

Principles of Emergency Management and Emergency Operations Centers (EOC), 2nd Edition
Edited by Michael J. Fagel, Rick C. Mathews, and J. Howard Murphy.

This award recognizes ASIS-member authored titles that are relevant to today’s security threats, important to the subject in the field, and unique in their coverage of a new security concept, idea, or technology.
