Industry News: Upgrading Surveillance at Opryland
RESORT SURVEILLANCE
The largest Marriott property in the world, the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, selected Hanwha Techwin for an upgrade to its surveillance system. The decision came after Ryman Hospitality, which owns the Gaylord Brand Hotels, conducted a risk assessment of its properties and found that all of its video surveillance systems were lacking. The Gaylord Opryland, operating as the company’s model test case, purchased 1,500 cameras, including 182 indoor and outdoor dome cameras with infrared, 145 high-definition cameras with video analytics, and more than 20 multidirectional cameras. The cameras were installed in high-traffic areas, sections that lacked surveillance, and spots popular for theft or other issues identified by internal data. Providing improved security for staff and guests, the system tracks people of interest throughout the property and counters false claims and potential lawsuits, providing a return on investment for the resort.
