Come Face-to-Face with History at ASIS Celebrates!
GSX attendees this year will have an opportunity to walk through halls of history as part of ASIS Celebrates!, sponsored by Johnson Controls. This ticketed party will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday, 30 September, at the National WWII Museum. There, visitors can network, enjoy refreshments and music, and be inspired by historical lessons and heroism from this global conflict.
“The National WWII Museum tells the story of the American experience in the war that changed the world—why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today—so that all generations will understand the price of freedom and be inspired by what they learn,” says Melissa Chesterman, director of event operations for the National WWII Museum. “Visitors will have access to our all of our main exhibits in the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, Campaigns of Courage, Liberation Pavilion, and U.S. Freedom Pavilion, as well as access to food, drink, entertainment by the Victory Belles and our Victory Orchestra, and after-hours shopping at our gift store.”
The evening will conclude with a sound and light show in the Col. Battle Barksdale Parade Ground outside the museum.
Chesterman particularly recommends that visitors check out the immersive multimedia exhibits Road to Tokyo and Road to Berlin, located in the Campaigns of Courage Pavilion. These exhibits feature key people and battles in the European and Pacific theaters.
“Security professionals will gain an understanding of the evolution of security and development of modern warfare through the technological innovation and advancements during that time, as well as the sheer logistical challenges of a massive global war,” she adds. “The museum exhibits will offer an opportunity for visitors alike to connect the historical lessons of World War II with modern day.”
One ticket to ASIS Celebrates! is included with the GSX All-Access Pass; other GSX badge holders may purchase tickets ahead of time at the convention center or at the museum on 30 September at the MCI registration table.
Shuttle buses to the museum depart at 6:20 p.m. and will run on a continuous schedule all evening. If you prefer to drive to the museum, parking is available at an hourly rate at the 1024 Magazine Street Parking Garage.
