The Art of Resilience: Proactive Training, Leadership, and Preparedness

How do museums confront moments of crisis? Rarely in a vacuum, according to Samuel J. Redman, professor of history and director of the Public History Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Redman has been studying museums and resilience, and recently authored The Museum: A Short History of Crisis and Resilience that traces how cultural institutions responded to episodes of crisis during the past century in the United States.

In the December episode of Security Management Highlights, Redman shared how he became involved in this area of study and what his research has taught him about the role security practitioners play in making cultural institutions more resilient.
