ALL SOULS ACCESS 

All Souls College at the University of Oxford, is a graduate research institution founded in 1438. The college recently needed to improve its access control without disturbing the look of the centuries-old buildings. Oxford-based Executive Alarms installed access control equipment from ACT to meet the institution’s needs. 

Fellows and staff use ACT’s contactless smart cards with the ACTpro MIFARE 1030 proximity reader. This slim mullion reader was installed with a brass flush plate fitted to walls near doorways to blend with the stone dressings. Whenever possible, the installation used existing structured cabling to maintain the integrity of the buildings. Minimal additional cabling was hidden in mortar lines. 

ACTenterprise software assigns functionality to users according to their specific needs. Operators appreciate the interface that has the look and feel of a Web browser. The single-door IP controllers are expandable up to 32 doors using ACT door stations, which offer broken glass monitoring, short-circuit protection, voltage monitoring, and anti-passback functionality. ​

PARTNERSHIPS AND DEALS 

American Fibertek and OT Systems have formed a partnership making AFI the exclusive partner of OT Systems in the Americas. 

Nationwide, a member-owned U.K. financial institution, implemented a payment security suite from CA to help verify cardholders and identify fraud.  

The Miami Marlins announced that the Marlins CLEAR Lane will speed fans through security with just the touch of a finger.  

CNL Software is partnering with Infinova on Safe Smart Cities programs in India. 

COPsync, Inc., announced a joint technology agreement with LIFEWatch USA to develop a hand-held device that can be used to remotely trigger a COPsync911 alert. 

Dataguise is partnering with IT distributor Green Light Technology to distribute Dataguise DgSecure in Latin America. 

FreeWave Technologies and Baud Telecom Company combined their expertise to deliver a rugged, yet flexible, industrial IoT networking solution for Saudi Electric Company.  

Galaxy Control Systems partnered with The Technology Xchange to provide manufacturer’s rep services in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii. 

Genetec Inc. will support the Allegion Schlage AD-Series of hardwired and wireless locks in its unified IP security platform. 

GhangorCloud announced a strategic partnership with Huawei that will combine Huawei hardware server platforms and GhangorCloud security software to protect against advanced persistent threats and data exfiltration. 

The Global Business Travel Association Foundation and iJET International launched the new Travel Risk Management Maturity Model Self-Assessment Tool. 

Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure will provide map and traffic data through a licensing agreement with TomTom Global Content B.V., as part of Hexagon’s public safety solutions in the Asia-Pacific region. 

Intellicheck Mobilisa, Inc., and Visualant, Inc., reached an agreement that provides Intellicheck the exclusive rights to Visualant’s patented photonics innovations for threat assessment and document authentication. 

National Crime Check is using Jumio’s Netverify to comply with National Police Checks requirements in Australia. 

Saltdean Lido in Brighton, United Kingdom, is using Kentec fire control panels in its new safety system. Local specialist AM Fire & Security was tapped by Brighton and Hove City Council to design and install the system. 

MicroStrategy Incorporated announced that its Usher security management platform is pre-integrated with multiple leading physical access control systems, including those from Honeywell, Lenel, Datawatch, Paxton, S2, and Tyco. 

Milestone Systems’ open platform IP video management software is helping the Dublin Zoo protect its animals from nighttime attacks by wild badgers and otters. 

Nanotech Security Corporation provided authentication and brand-protection technology for admission tickets to the Union of European Football Associations Euro 2016 Football Championship held in France in June and July. 

Monitronics Security approved the Qolsys line of devices for its dealer program. 

Ogilvy Public Relations formed a strategic alliance with RockDove Solutions to create crisis communications planning content for Ogilvy clients. 

OnSSI integrated its Ocularis 5 Video Management Software with the DNA Fusion access control platform from Open Options. 

OSS Inc. is providing security guard services at The East End, a redevelopment of the historic Goodyear campus in Akron, Ohio, which is owned by IRG Realty Advisors, LLC.  

Paxton announced the integration of its networked access control system, Net2, with Dahua.  

PESA and Cobalt Digital formed a new global strategic partnership to integrate their complementary technologies and create bundled solutions for customers.  

Spokane Community College implemented Rapid Responder Easy Alert, from Prepared Response, Inc.  

Security On-Demand is partnering with CounterTack to offer advanced threat protection for endpoints. 

Unisys Corporation announced that it is teaming with Mitel to enhance the protection of critical communications for Mitel’s customers. 

ZKAccess retained manufacturer’s rep firm Marktek to service the Mid-Atlantic region. ​

GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS 

The National Capital Region’s Hazardous Materials Committee purchased hand-held mass spectrometers from 908 Devices.  

ATS Armor LLC was selected to provide 500 Active Shooter Kits to the Miami-Dade Police Department in Florida. 

American Science and Engineering, Inc., received an order for a cargo screening system and multiple parcel inspection systems from Iraq’s Najaf International Airport.  

Centerra Group, LLC, was selected as the fire protection and emergency services contractor at Cavalier Air Force Station in North Dakota in a joint venture with CGH Global.  

COPsync, Inc., announced that its threat-alert system will be implemented in schools in the Iberville Parish School District in Louisiana and Brunswick County Schools in Virginia. 

The New Mexico Department of Public Safety selected an integrated suite of public safety software from Hex­agon Safety & Infrastructure for its statewide incident management system. 

Hikvision provided a surveillance solution to Colorado’s Greenwood Village Police Department for use in its crime lab. 

Middle Atlantic Products announced that its Web-based configuration tool was used by Karcher Group to design control racks for the large-scale A/V installation at the Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia.  

ODSecurity installed a SOTER RS full-body scanner at Humboldt County Correctional Facility in California. 

The Houston Police Department deployed radiation detection technology from Passport Systems, Inc., as part of the security preparations for the NCAA Final Four Men’s Basketball Championship. 

PlateSmart Technologies will pro­vide its ARES Automatic License Plate Recognition solution for New York Metropolitan Transit Authority bridges and tunnels. The deployment is part of a project with Schneider Electric. 

Safariland announced that Miami- Dade Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract to VIEVU to supply body-worn cameras to its police force. 

Sielox Class Crisis Lockdown Alert Status Systems have been selected for installation in New Jersey’s Pemberton Township School District. 

SureID, Inc., announced that its RAPIDGate program is nearing implementation completion at all 24 Marine Corps installations across the continental United States and Hawaii. 

King County, Washington, chose the C•CURE 9000 security and event management system from Tyco Security Products to provide a single security management platform for the county. 

Utility, Inc., announced that its BodyWorn police body camera system will be deployed by the Lilburn and Marietta Police Departments, both based in the Atlanta area.  

The General Directorate for National Security for the Kingdom of Morocco awarded Veridos the design and implementation of a national border control system, including the IT infrastructure for the project. ​

AWARDS AND CERTIFICATIONS 

AlliedBarton Security Services was named a 2016 LearningElite company by Chief Learning Officer magazine.  

Avritek earned AAA Certification from the National Association for Information Destruction. 

Battelle’s Active Shooter response technology has been certified to reduce the amount of time required to end an active shooting by as much as 65 percent, according to tests conducted by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. 

CNL Software announced that its IPSecurityCenter was voted the most outstanding PSIM product in the Govies 2016 Government Security Awards sponsored by Security Products, Security Today, and GovSec. 

Covenant Security Services was named by Forbes Media and Statista as one of America’s Best Midsize Employers in 2016. 

HealPros obtained HITRUST CSF-certified status from the Health Information Trust Alliance. 

Medeco High Security Locks, an ASSA ABLOY Group company, achieved ISO 14001:2004 certificate from Intertek. 

Middle Atlantic Products attained GreenCircle Certification for Waste Diversion from Landfill for its manufacturing facility in Fairfield, New Jersey. 

The IEC international standards body has adopted the ONVIF specification for access control as its new standard for electronic access control systems. 

The Security Industry Association honored products from its New Product Showcase at the ISC West trade show. Chosen as the best new product was the TIGER by LYNX TFG Ltd. The Judges’ Choice Award went to Text Speak Design for its Text Speak Ear Bridge. The judges presented awards in 26 product and service categories. Sielox received approval from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its non-provisional patent application, filed in support of its CLASS (Crisis Lockdown Alert Status System) solution. 

Ultracomms is certified as compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, v3.1, achieving PCI DSS Level 1 accredited service provider status for its entire platform. 

Universal Protection Service was named to the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for 2016. 

Virtual StrongBox, Inc., gained a patent for technology that allows users to securely select, view, and store private documents on mobile phones and other digital devices.

OSC World announced that Facebook geographic social media monitoring and review has been added to Digital Fly, its geographically fenced public social media monitoring and alert system designed for the education sector. 

Semafone is opening a new regional headquarters in Boston. 

The Smart Card Alliance formed the Internet of Things Security Council to develop and promote best practices and provide educational resources on implementing secure IoT architectures using embedded security and privacy technology.  

UL (Underwriters Laboratories), announced its new Cybersecurity Assurance Program. 

PANDHUB, a project coordinated by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd., is developing ways to reduce the risk of pandemics and manage other high-threat pathogen incidents in transportation hubs. 

York University’s School of Continuing Studies will launch Ontario’s first cybersecurity certificate program aligned to the Certified Information Systems Security Professional Common Body of Knowledge. ​
