Industry News February 2016

NEW SECURITY AWARDS

When a 2014 research project on excellence in the security field revealed that perceptions of security at the highest levels of organizations is key to improving security performance, a global awards program was created to facilitate that idea. The Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs) provide an opportunity for outstanding performers to be recognized and their success to be celebrated, according to OSPAs founder Martin Gill.

The criteria for the awards are based on extensive research into factors that contribute to outstanding performance. Standardizing the award categories and criteria gives organizations in different countries the opportunity to create their own OSPA programs and maintain an ability to compete on an international level in the future. So far, Germany, Norway, and Australia have launched OSPA programs, and the first U.S. awards will be hosted at ASIS 2016 in Orlando, Florida, this September.

Shown here are a few winners at the Australian OSPAs (from left): Sally Jaeger of ASG Integracom, David Gavan of Chubb Electronic, and Tami Gilchrist of ASG Integracom. Visit SM Online to read the research that led to the OSPAs and to find out more about applying for awards in your locale.
