A dedicated intellectual entrepreneur, Ian Bremmer is the president of Eurasia Group—a leading global political risk research and consulting firm. Bremmer’s career spans academic, investment, and policymaking communities, with a focus on global macro-political trends and emerging markets.
Bremmer’s work to define the business of politics has accordingly focused on making political science relevant to the global marketplace. He created Wall Street’s first global political risk index, a ground-breaking methodology leveraging political science to assess investment risk.
Bremmer is also the author of several bestselling books, including The End of the Free Market: Who Wins the War Between States and Corporations? and The J Curve: A New Way to Understand Why Nations Rise and Fall.
In Monday’s General Session, Bremmer will bring his keen understanding of global trends, politics, and economics to this fast-paced discussion of what’s happening around the world—both in emerging markets and on the political front lines.

The face of security changed forever on 11 September 2001, and John F. Kelly, former U.S. secretary of homeland security, former White House chief of staff, and a four-star general in the U.S. Marine Corps, protected the United States abroad and at home.
Kelly enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970 and went on to serve in a number of command, staff, and school assignments. During his command of SOUTHCOM, he worked closely with professionals in U.S. law enforcement, particularly the FBI, DEA, and the Department of Homeland Security, dealing with the flow of drugs, people, and other threats against the U.S. homeland.
Kelly later went on to serve in the Trump administration—first as secretary of homeland security and then as White House chief of staff until January 2019.
On Wednesday, Kelly will share insights on the trends, risks, and potential rewards amid the hot spots of the globe and the role the United States plays in global security.

Reports of cybersecurity breaches and major scandals have dominated headlines for years. Cybersecurity attacks are doubling every year. Phishing scams are at an all-time high. These days, it is not an IT manager answering for security breaches—it’s CEOs and business owners.
Tarah Wheeler is an engineer who went from the keyboard to leading the world’s top red teams and data privacy teams. An offensive cybersecurity researcher, she is currently the Cybersecurity Policy Fellow at New America and leads an international cybersecurity project.
Wheeler is also an inaugural contributing cybersecurity expert for The Washington Post and a Foreign Policy contributor on cyber warfare.
On Thursday, she will bring depth and humor to an otherwise complex—but necessary—subject. From cryptocurrency to how the Internet of Things might provide a gateway to hackers to absorbing how a robust cybersecurity plan operates to cover security at live events, Wheeler will offer a breakdown of what attendees need to know—and do—to protect themselves, their partners, and their clients.
Brigadier General Stefanie Horvath, current leader of enterprise service delivery for the state of Minnesota, will introduce Wheeler. After Wheeler’s talk, Horvath and Wheeler will have a Q&A session to discuss their vantage points on cybersecurity.
