Focus on Mass Protests and Activism

Campus Protests: Working Together to Meet Peace with Peace

In July 2024, more than 3,100 people were arrested in relation to protests at college campuses across the United States. Many of the charges associated with these arrests were dropped, but university administrators remained on edge. In addition to the fallout generated by arresting activists, many campuses experienced weekslong encampments and extensive property damage. Other university officials across the country faced pressure to both allow free expression while mitigating protest risks. At Saint Louis University, administrators leaned on preestablished accords to navigate the new situation.
