HONG KONG ID CARDS

The High Security Printing Asia conference, organized by Reconnaissance International, named Hong Kong Special Administrative Region the winner of Best New ePassport and Best New ID Card for 2019. The new ePassports were released in January 2019. Each card's polycarbonate data page contains microprinting, a background of the national flag and emblem of Hong Kong—the Golden Bauhinia Square—and a foreground with a laser-engraved photo of the cardholder. The smart ID card features built-in RFID technology and high-resolution photographs that support facial recognition software, in addition to a distinctive background of the city's skyline visible only under ultraviolet light. The IDs also have expanded storage capacity for higher-resolution photos, supporting alternative biometric authentication platforms.
