Industry News July 2016

ALERTS FOR AIRFEST

Tampa Bay AirFest 2016 offered a chance for visitors to examine military aircraft, watch aerial demonstrations by military and civilian performers, and learn more about the military personnel and equipment MacDill Air Force Base uses to carry out its missions.

Advanced security technology helped keep participants safe. PlateSmart Technologies, in partnership with Sentry View Systems, provided its ARES automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) video analytics solution to monitor vehicles. The solution was connected to strategically placed cameras on utility poles and trailers. License plate numbers from vehicles passing by the cameras were compared to law enforcement databases to check for persons of interest. In addition to reading number and jurisdiction of license, the solution also recognizes vehicle make, color, and type.

The ALPR system produced many alerts, giving base security leads to investigate further. In 2014, a smaller deployment at AirFest scanned more than 11,000 plates and produced 199 alerts.
