Industry News January 2016

TRACKING VISITORS

The 2015 European Games, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, was an international sporting event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees of European countries. This inaugural event tested 6,000 athletes from 50 countries competing in 20 sports. More than 250,000 people attended the competition.

To ensure the safety and security of the attendees and athletes, organizers implemented an RFID-based system that enabled event managers to monitor attendance, locate individual attendees, and view video feeds from a zone where a person of interest was located. Mojix supplied the Mojix Secure and Safe Event Experience, which is based on its ViZix IoT platform. Working with partner Main Development, the company implemented an RFID reader network with more than 1,400 RFID antennas.

Visitors registered at self-service kiosks, which took photos and scanned passports, extracting identification information and programming RFID-enabled tickets. RFID readers verified tags at entries and exits, and the antenna network could monitor attendance levels by location and zone. Rules could be set to alarm on patterns, such as unauthorized access to an area, and rules, zones, and alarms could be reconfigured instantly.
