Industry News November 2015

BB&T Ballpark is a new, state-of-the-art baseball facility located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and home of the Charlotte Knights. The 10,200-seat stadium features a view of the city’s uptown skyline, 975 club seats, and 22 luxury suites.

Before construction began, management tasked Vertex Technology Consultants with developing the specifications of the new security system. The stadium’s aim was to promote an open feel while keeping an eye on strategic locations and limiting access to more sensitive areas, such as ballpark management offices, loading docks, and cash handling rooms.

Security101, the integrator, built the system around the Genetec Security Center. The security platform unifies video surveillance, access control systems, and license plate recognition systems with third-party systems and plugins. The installation includes Axis network cameras, HID Global access readers and controllers, and Bosch intrusion detection panels.

On game days, local police officers handle active surveillance, monitoring video of seating areas, entry gates, and other key locations from a security control room equipped with wall-mounted and desktop monitors. Already, the system has succeeded in identifying instances of employee theft and providing video evidence for expelling unruly fans.
