Walker Award Honors Wick
?Allan Wick, CPP, PCI, PSP, will receive the Don Walker Award for Enterprise Security Executive Leadership at Monday's Networking Luncheon. Wick, CSO of Tri-State Generation, Westminster, Colorado, has been a member of ASIS International since 1984 and the CSO Roundtable since 2012.
The award recognizes an individual who has supported and encouraged security education and certification efforts. Wick is being recognized for his efforts as an ASIS International volunteer leader to initiate and promote both programs.
Under his guidance, Wick's direct reports have earned university and post-graduate degrees. His personal development plans for his team includes their attendance at the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits as well as ASIS classroom programs. One of his employees completed all three Asset Protection Courses (APC), then became an APC I instructor.
Wick understands the value of certification to a security professional's career. He served on the Professional Certification Board for six years. As chair of the ASIS Utilities Security Council, Wick instituted a policy that all council members be certified. Not only does Wick hold all three ASIS certificationsseveral of his team members have also earned the CPP and PSP credentials as well as other industry certifications.
Wick has also strongly supported ASIS standards efforts. He participated in developing six ASIS standards and guidelines, as well as two electric-industry-sponsored security standards. He's used ASIS standards extensively, including implementing the Business Continuity Standard in his workplace and building a workplace violence prevention program based on ASIS standards.
Promoting the next generation of security leaders is a goal of the CSO Roundtable, a goal shared by Wick. He has encouraged and financially supported efforts by his direct reports, whether employee or contractor, as they broadened their leadership and management knowledge and skills. He developed a "shadow management program" for his deputies so they could see him interacting with senior management, using the Chief Security Officer Standard as a guide.
The Walker Award was inspired by Don A. Walker, CPP, chairman, Securitas Security Services USA, Inc. An active contributor to a cross-section of ASIS activities for many years, Walker was the 1978 president of ASIS and first cochair of the CSO Roundtable. CSO Roundtable Advisory Board Vice President Michael Maloof chaired the committee that reviewed the nominations for this prestigious award.
