PROTECTING A WRIGHT HOUSE

The Rosenbaum House is the only home in Alabama designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Now a museum operated by the City of Florence, Alabama, the house was owned by the Rosenbaum family from 1940 until 1999. The house has been restored and is open to the public.

Among the significant Wright features of the house are its flat roofs with low, overhanging eaves. The cantilevered roof over the driveway was designed for cars of a different time. More recently,  drivers who pulled into the driveway sometimes hit that iconic roof with their larger vehicles. Officials turned to ParkingZone, a division of Pacific Cascade Corporation, for a solution.

ParkingZone installed Gorilla Posts to keep motorists from entering the drive. The bollards use neodymium magnets to lock onto metal base plates when needed, and they can be removed for special events or photography sessions. The posts were custom-designed to blend into the environment, so they do not detract from the beauty of the home.
