Countering Fraud

Wiley.com; 208 pages; $60

All companies are affected by fraud. It’s a disease that can cripple or even collapse a company no matter its size.

Countering Fraud for Competitive Advantage provides a guide to creating a business case for an antifraud program that yields a positive return on investment. The authors delve into the nuts and bolts of a complete program, and they detail what the program should consist of based on a company’s needs, as well as its appetite for enforcement and prosecution. Statistics are not the main subject, but they are intelligently used.

It is refreshing that the authors discuss the problems found when reporting fraud incidents to local law enforcement in a straightforward manner. The book has a British flavor, but the ideas and mechanics will work for companies worldwide. Anyone looking to include an antifraud program for their business should consider reading this book.
