ASIS European Security Conference
The ASIS International 13th European Security Conference and Exhibition will take place in The Hague, The Netherlands, April 1-3. More than 500 senior security professionals are expected to attend and the educational roster will include 44 high-level educational sessions delivered by industry leaders. This unique conference will address a full spectrum of topics in security management, including supply chain security, loss prevention, hotel security, intellectual property, oil and gas security, maritime piracy, terrorism, executive protection, internal theft and fraud, competitive intelligence, brand protection, physical security, cybersecurity, investigations, due diligence, and global business issues. The keynote address on April 3 will be given by EUROPOL Director Rob Wainwright on the topic of “Organized Crime: The Scale of the Challenge Facing Europe.” The effects of globalization in society and business led to the emergence of significant new variations in criminal activity: criminal networks that exploit legislative loopholes, the Internet, and conditions associated with the economic crisis to generate illicit profits at low risk. These new developments are changing the nature of organized crime to a model based around a networked community of heterogeneous, international groups. These groups are no longer defined by their nationality or specialization in one area of crime but by an ability to operate on an international basis, with a focus on maximizing profit and minimizing risk

Lines of Hope Campaign
The ASIS Foundation-sponsored Lines of Hope is an annual campaign to raise funds to provide vital support services for wounded U.S. soldiers. In 2007, ASIS member Kevin T. Doss, CPP, PSP, began the effort at the chapter level by raising funds to purchase prepaid calling cards for the soldiers so that they could keep in touch with their families. In 2012, the focus changed to providing support for other worthy programs that assist soldiers recovering from traumatic injuries.

Since 2009, ASIS members and chapters, as well as corporate sponsors, have given more than $91,000 for support, services, and training to recovering troops and their families. The types of support and programs funded have evolved to meet the changing needs of the wounded warriors. This has included the prepaid phone cards, support for the Walter Reed Soldier and Family Assistance Center, the Warrior Transition Brigade, and Operation Second Chance.

In 2012, Lines of Hope provided 50 portable DVD players and headsets to the Soldier and Family Assistance Center in response to their request. Support was also provided to the Warrior Transition Brigade’s service dog training program that employs soldiers in transition and touches the lives of scores of others on base and in the community. The program cannot accept direct donations, so the Foundation has provided needed equipment.

Donations to the campaign will be accepted online through the Foundation Web site, www.foundation.asisonline.org, as well as by mail. Individual members and friends, as well as organizations, are encouraged to give at any time throughout the year.

Each December, product or service donations will be presented to soldiers and their families in treatment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Major contributors will be invited to attend the presentation.

Those wishing to submit donations by mail, may send them to Director Barbara Buzzell, ASIS Foundation, 1625 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
