BUSINESS NEWS

The Cloud Security Alliance has created a new working group to focus on the examination of incident handling and forensics in the cloud environment. The Incident Management and Forensics Working Group will define best practices that consider the legal, technical, and procedural elements of responding to security incidents in the cloud.

The group has assessed current issues and published its findings in a white paper, Mapping the Forensic Standard ISO/IEC 27037 to Cloud Computing. The white paper aims to help researchers, data governance experts, and forensic practitioners define standardized processes for conducting forensic investigations, electronic discovery, and other aspects of security in the highly virtualized environment. The paper covers topics such as forensic requirements for cloud service providers in addition to analyzing the ISO 27037 standard for digital forensics and how it can be applied to the cloud.

Next up for the working group will be a research paper titled Developing a Capability Maturity Model for Incident Management and Forensics in Cloud Environments. Learn more about the Cloud Security Alliance and download the white paper via Beyond Print at www.securitymanagement.com.

Cigar Fundraiser to Be Held at Seminar and Exhibits
The Military Liaison Council (MLC) will hold their annual cigar fundraiser at the ASIS International 59th Annual Seminar and Exhibits in Chicago. For the past three years, the council has secured cigars from donors and offered them for a nominal donation. The proceeds have been shared between the ASIS Foundation and a military philanthropy. This effort has raised more than $16,500 to support wounded veterans and Foundation scholarships and programs.

This year the MLC has voted to make the USO and Support the Troops the joint beneficiaries of the fundraiser. MLC Chair Joseph L. Rector, CPP, PSP, PCI, and members of the council will have cigars available at both the Annual Foundation Golf Tournament at Harborside Golf on Monday, September 23, before the opening of the Seminar and Exhibits, then at the Annual President’s Reception at the Science and Industry Museum on September 25. The museum features a waterfront terrace where guests will be able to enjoy their cigars.

“We are pleased to be able to continue our support of the Foundation and military charities for a fourth year. We encourage the Annual Seminar attendees to come out and support the research and educational efforts of the Foundation, as well as two great organizations that buoy the morale and welfare of our military service members and veterans,” says Rector.

The MLC encourages everyone to stop by and make donations.
