Hack of AP Twitter Account Falsely Said that the White House Had Been Attacked, Briefly Affected Stock Market

CNBC and other media have reported that a hacked AP twitter account sent a bogus tweet that said "two explosions in White House, Barack Obama injured," but the story was quickly discredited and the stock market has since recovered. This from CNBC TV

AP says came after repeated "phishing" attempts to steal accounts of AP reporters, reports CNBC. The tweet was up four minutes, CNBC states.

This happens on the heels of recent hacks of other media accounts that resulted in false stories about Syria and raise issues about the security of Twitter and the need for people to respond cautiously to such news reports.
