Second Sony Hacker Arrested

09/04/2012 -A second member of the hacking group LulzSec has been arrested for a 2011 intrusion of Sony Pictures’ computer systems.

Raynaldo Rivera, 20, of Tempe, Arizona surrendered to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Phoenix last week, according to an FBIstatement. On August 22, a Los Angeles federal grand jury returned a two count indictment against Rivera, who is charged with conspiracy and the unauthorized impairment of a protected computer. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Working with co-conspirators, Rivera allegedly carried out an SQL attack against Sony; such attacks frequently involve inputting code into Web site form fields in order to take advantage of site vulnerabilities to gain access to underlying databases. One co-conspirator, Cody Kretsinger, pled guilty in April and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 25.

After the breach, LulzSec published information including the names, birth dates, addresses, e-mails, phone numbers, and passwords of thousands of Sony user accounts online.
