Osama Bin Laden Dead

05/01/2011 -

Nearly a decade after 9-11, President Obama has reported that the United States conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden.

President Obama reported that upon taking office, he had directed Leon Panetta, director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of Osama bin Laden the top priority. Last August, he said, he was briefed on a possible lead.

"Finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action," he said. After a firefight in Abbottabad, Pakistan, the U.S. military special forces team killed bin Laden and captured his body. No Americans died in the fight.

The mastermind of the attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center was also behind 1998 bombings of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and the 2000 bombings of the USS Cole in Yemen.
