Nuclear security

The level of preparedness for an attack against the U.S. nuclear infrastructure continues to be hotly debated among congressmen. In its latest query to the GAO, the House Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats, and International Relations of the Committee on Government Reform asked about the Department of Energy's (DOE's) continuing response to the September 11 attacks. While stepped-up security has increased deterrence at nuclear sites, say GAO auditors, "it has been expensive and has resulted in fatigue, retention problems, and less training for most sites' protective forces."Gao04623_Nuclear0704.pdf
