Q. What security issue do you believe is being overlooked?

A. Within CISA we are very focused on the convergence between physical security and cybersecurity. I’m also concerned with the insider threat. Investing in an insider threat program is worth its weight in gold.

Q. What place would you like to visit?

A. Without a doubt, my favorite place to visit outside of the United States is the U.K.

Q. What is the best advice you’ve gotten regarding your career?

A. The best advice I’ve ever received remains “Always show value.” Every day. Be visible, contribute to the dialogue, and showcase your eagerness to make the team better—not just yourself.

Q. If you had an extra hour each day, how would you use it?

A. Working long hours and traveling as much as I do throughout the country, I would love an additional hour that I can dedicate to going for a run or some gym time.

Q. What is your proudest moment?

A. My proudest moment has been the opportunity to serve the American people as a leader within the Department of Homeland Security. The dedicated workforce we have, and their desire to keep the nation safe and secure, motivates me to come to work every morning.
