Key Security Industry Influencers and Buyers Attend ASIS International Seminar and Exhibits

Alexandria, VA 2015-10-21

At the ASIS International 61st Annual Seminar and Exhibits (ASIS 2015), operational and cyber security practitioners from 87 countries came together to acquire new knowledge and explore innovative product and service solutions. Held Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, 2015 at the Anaheim Convention Center, ASIS 2015 participants addressed the latest challenges and trends affecting security.

"Security practitioners cannot afford to stand still. There must be a continuous investment in education and peer-to-peer interface to keep pace with the latest threats and potential mitigation strategies. Having earned both a CPP and a CISSP credential, I am one of many security professionals who recognize the evolution of the industry and have chosen to dual-certify in both operational and cyber security" stated Dave N. Tyson, CPP, CISSP, 2015 president of ASIS.

The ASIS Seminar and Exhibits sets itself apart in the security industry as it is the only conference to offer security professionals a distinctive and robust blend of high-quality, peer-developed education and valuable face-to-face networking. Career-minded security professionals from around the world acquire critical knowledge and strategies from leading experts that enable them to excel in their profession. Quality networking opportunities with peers further support their advancement and achievement of their career goals.

"ASIS has always been a great platform for us to meet with our current customers and partners. Many of these meetings allow all the stakeholders to be face-to-face," observed Jay Phillips, manager, trade shows, Allegion. "Of course, the show is also a great place to engage high-quality prospects."

"For the first time in our history, we experienced an unqualified victory. We received more than 100 qualified leads from around the world," said Lew Pincus, CEO, Gamma 2 Robotics. "G4S confirmed an initial order for 10 robots, with several others expressing interest and potential for even larger partnerships. Federal agencies initiated the exploration process and other organizations sought to undertake pilots. The results were tangible."

Registration for ASIS 2015 totaled more than 21,000. Verified preliminary attendance was 17,484, which was below expectations, but exhibitors─both large and small─reported the quality of attendees had increased. ASIS has contracted with BPA Worldwide to perform an independent audit of the preliminary attendance numbers, the results of which will be available by the end of 2015. As it has each year since 2009, ASIS makes this documentation publicly available and is the largest, dedicated security show that does so.

ASIS 2015 marked the fifth consecutive year for the colocation of the (ISC)2 Security Congress with the Annual Seminar and Exhibits. (ISC)2 is the largest not-for-profit membership body of certified information security professionals worldwide. The colocation of these two events provides professionals─both Seminar and Congress registrants─access to a comprehensive offering of security education, products, and technologies, as well as networking events. The need for operational and cyber security professionals to possess core knowledge of both areas of practice is critical as technology and the security profession evolve.

ASIS participated in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program (IBP) for the first time this year. As part of the IBP, exhibitors met one-on-one with delegations that together were comprised of about 200 pre-screened buyers as well as specialists from key regions throughout the world to discuss market trends and consult on opportunities for new business. ASIS plans to partner with the Department of Commerce in 2016 and looks to expand future offerings.

The ASIS International 62nd Annual Seminar and Exhibits (ASIS 2016) will take place September 12-15, 2016 in Orlando, Fl. where (ISC)2 will once again colocate its Security Congress. Online registration will open in January 2016.

In 2016, ASIS will offer advance exhibits-only registration free-of-charge. A nominal fee for nonmembers will be charged on-site.

Education session development will also begin in early 2016 with a call for presentations opening this November. Session submissions are reviewed and evaluated by a committee of security industry experts, with only the most highly rated programs accepted for presentation. This process ensures education sessions align with evolving and emergent threats, risks, and mitigation trends and strategies.
