The security function in organizations continues to evolve, and the 2025 Security Trends project sought to measure if and how security has become more strategic in organizations, how they prepare for the threats they face, and how security professionals use and view artificial intelligence.

Security Incident Management in 2025

This research project examined how security professionals prepare for, respond to, and recover from security incidents. It presents benchmarks and trends on the number and types of security incidents organizations face and examines the security tactics and policies that make an organization effective at managing security incidents. The report is derived from a survey of more than 600 ASIS members and customers.

Active Assailant Preparedness: Risks and Recommendations

Published January 2025

ASIS International, with partner Everbridge, has been studying trends in active assailant readiness and response for several years. The 2024 Active Assailant Preparedness Survey repeated several benchmarking questions with previous surveys in order to uncover how approaches have evolved while examining several new areas critical to understanding the current state of active assailant preparedness.

The Current State of Security Risk Management: Benchmarks and Effectiveness Measures

The security function becomes more of a strategic asset for organizations when seen through the lens of risk management. This survey-based report is designed to both present a standalone set of benchmarks and success factors as well as supplement the findings from the landmark ASIS Foundation report, The Influence of Security Risk: Understanding Security’s Corporate Sphere of Risk Influence. More than 1,000 security industry professionals told us about the threat landscape they face, how security management integrates into their organization’s overall risk management practice, and how their security risk planning fared in the face of critical incidents. The Essentials of Access Control: Insights, Benchmarks, and Best Practices

Access control is a foundational part of any physical security strategy. ASIS undertook this research to study how organizations deployed access control systems—defined as the combination of technology and policies and procedures used to regulate access to and within facilities. The study, derived from a survey of more than 1,000 security professionals, provides benchmarks of systems in place and analyzes what technology and tactics make controlling access effective.
