Florian Matusek, Product Marketing Manager at Genetec sat down with us to discuss his upcoming exclusive webinar exploring the practical realities of AI in security operations. To learn more about the webinar on 23 April sponsored by Genetec or to register, visit here.

Q: How did you become interested in AI-enabled tools to support security teams?

A: That goes back to my studies over 20 years ago. At my university department I worked on a project to optimize ground handling operations at Toulouse airport using video analytics. That led to the idea of using video analytics for security purposes. Of course, that was long before we used AI for video analytics but earlier computer vision techniques.

Q: What advice would you give security professionals interested in implementing AI-enabled tools within their security operations?

A: Think about the outcome you are looking to achieve first. AI tools are a means to an end, a tool to achieve something. Never implement AI for the sake of it or because management tells you that you “need AI”. AI tools are there to help you be more successful in your job.

Q: Why should security professionals have AI on their radar? For example: what trends, research, and/or news have been surrounding this topic.

A: It is hard not to have AI on the radar nowadays, with a lot of new functionality utilizing it, some useful, some not. This is why it is important to understand where it can provide value and where not. It is also important for security professionals to understand the importance of how AI functionality is being developed and the impact on data privacy, safety, and human oversight.
