Protecting Small Businesses

Active shooter and workplace violence incidents have steadily increased and become more deadly over the past few years. In addition to the growing number of violent incidents, the number of casualties involved in these events is also growing at an alarming rate. It is a fact that soft targets (small businesses, hospitals, schools, sporting venues, movie theaters, restaurants, churches, shopping centers, bus and rail systems, etc.) are most frequently the target of such attacks. How can a soft target protect itself without creating a Fort Knox environment when it is not needed?

This program is designed to help soft targets identify low-cost, yet highly effective physical measures to deal with active threats and emergency situations. This course helps soft targets plan, develop, and manage an effective threat management program.

Instruction will cover the special needs for soft target planning as well as the response and recovery phases of an active shooter/threat incident or other emergency security situation. The class will also discuss how to deter a shooting attempt, detect warning behaviors, and prevent additional casualties, along with strategies that can be easily deployed by the organization to develop its own active threat management program.

Confirmation

Certificates of Attendance

ASIS reserves the right to withhold certificates, if attendance requirements are not met.

Certificates are not issued for Review Programs.

Last-Minute Registrations

While we welcome all registrations, including those on-site, the availability of handout materials cannot be guaranteed.

Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

Each 50-minutes of instruction is worth one CPE.

Cancellation and Transfer Policy

For a full refund or transfer credit, written requests must be received by ASIS at least 10 business days before the start date of the program. Those received less than 10 days prior will be charged a $100 cancellation/transfer fee.

Tours of Third-Party Sites

When a program includes a visit to or a tour of a third-party site, the host organization may require the use of non-disclosure agreements. Subject to the requirements of the host organization, the agreements offered to nationals and non-nationals of the host country may differ.

Team Discount

Receive a 10% discount when three to five attendees register from the same organization, 15% for six or more. Email asis@asisonline.org for details.

Certification Discount

Bio: Constantine Sofologis has over 20 years of experience in Physical Security including the areas of executive protection, vulnerability assessment, asset protection, risk assessment and threat analysis. Mr. Sofologis led more than 150 protective missions throughout the world within the US Secret Service Technical Security Division. Responsibilities included leading a team of Physical Security Specialists and Special Agents to provide a technically secure environment for the physical protection of all venues and safety of the public. Mr. Sofologis was selected as Lead Physical Security Specialist for the Asian Pacific Economic Conference in Waikiki, Hawaii in 2011, where he was tasked with coordinating physical security for twenty-four visiting heads of state. Additionally, he supervised the physical security plan for the 2015 Papal visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia which was the largest National Special Security Event (NSSE) in the history of the USSS. Mr. Sofologis is Board certified as a Physical Security Professional (PSP) ASIS International and Certified Program Manager for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Before joining the Secret Service, Mr. Sofologis was a Technologist for the United States Department of Energy from 1993-1997, during which time he managed and maintained emergency communication and digital imagery equipment systems. He was a member of the Nuclear/Radiological Advisory and NEST teams.
