Step 1: Choose a Certification

Certified Protection Professional (CPPⓇ)
The Certified Protection Professional (CPPⓇ) is considered the "gold standard" for security management professionals. This certification validates your knowledge in all areas of security management. Eligibility requirements include 7-9 years of security experience and 3 years in responsible charge of a security function.

Associate Protection Professional (APP)
The Associate Protection Professional (APP) designation provides the first "rung" on the security manager's career ladder. It is for those with 1-4 years of security management experience and measures the professional’s knowledge of security management fundamentals, business operations, risk management, and response management.

Professional Certified Investigator (PCIⓇ)
The professional Certified Investigator (PCIⓇ) certification provides demonstrable proof of an individual's knowledge and experience in case management, evidence collection, and preparation of reports and testimony to substantiate findings. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and five years of investigations experience, with at least two years in case management.

Physical Security Professional (PSPⓇ)
The Physical Security Professional (PSPⓇ) demonstrates your knowledge in physical security assessments, application, design, and integration of physical security systems, and implementation of security measures. Eligibility requirements include a high school diploma, GED equivalent, or associate degree AND six years of progressive experience in the physical security field OR a Bachelor's degree or higher AND four years of progressive experience in the physical security field.

Step 3: Apply for Certification

You've made the right decision to let ASIS help you reach your career goals and reach new heights in professional excellence. To make the application process quick and easy, have the following items handy prior to starting.

  1. Resume and an unofficial copy of your university transcript (if applicable)
  2. Names and contact information for three references who can verify your work experience
  3. Name of supervisor who can verify your employment
  4. Payment for the application and exam fees

Step 4: The Exam

Congratulations!

Your application was approved.

  • Schedule your Exam
    ASIS exams are offered year-round at Prometric test centers. You may schedule your exam online (preferred) or by phone. Once ASIS approves your application, you will receive an email with instructions to schedule your exam.

  • Prepare and Study
    We encourage candidates to refer of our recommended reading materials when studying for the exam. We also offer both classroom and online review courses. 

  • Take the Exam
    Learn what to expect on exam day and when you will receive your results.

As an ASIS-certified professional, you can help ensure the certification programs align with current and emerging industry trends.

All ASIS certification programs are created and maintained by volunteers in the security profession. ASIS is continually seeking certified professionals who are willing and able to commit their time and expertise to these endeavors. Each volunteer panel must be comprised of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds including years in the field, geographic location, industry, and more. All volunteers receive CPEs for their work.
