China Stepping Up Spying Against U.S.

A RECENT report to Congress from the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission found that Chinese intelligence collection efforts against the United States are growing in scale, intensity, and sophistication. The group also found a marked increase in cyber intrusions “originating in China and targeting U.S. government and defense-related computer systems.”

The report says recent espionage cases find China using more people outside of the Chinese-American community.

The commission that wrote the report is a bipartisan 12-member board appointed by Congress. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Qin Gang denied many of the commission’s findings. The report “takes no regard of the true situation,” he wrote on the ministry Web site. “It is full of prejudice, and out of ulterior motive.”
