The chapter will host a dinner honoring Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder
Alexandria, VA/Long Island, NY (3 April 2025)—In celebration and recognition of Public-Private Partnership Day, the ASIS Long Island chapter will be hosting their annual Person of the Year Dinner where they will honor Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder.
In 2024, ASIS International, the National Sheriffs’ Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police celebrated the inaugural Public Law Enforcement/Private Security Partnership Day. Public-Private Partnership Day, occurring on the fourth Thursday of April annually, fosters and supports the development of strong, robust, and enduring partnerships between the public safety community and the private security professions.
To highlight the value of public-private partnerships, the ASIS Long Island Chapter is hosting its annual Person of the Year Dinner on Public-Private Partnership Day this year. The chapter plans to honor Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder as well as a local security officer. The Long Island chapter is still seeking nominations for Security Officer of the Year; if you are interested in submitting a nomination, please contact ASIS Long Island Secretary Tom Vogel at [email protected].
Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder has served in law enforcement for over 40 years, including spending the last 38 years with the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD). Commissioner Ryder started his career in the New York City Police Department before joining the NCPD. In 1995, Commissioner Ryder was promoted to sergeant, when he was assigned to the Asset Forfeiture Unit as the deputy commanding officer.
In 2008, he was promoted to commanding officer of Asset Forfeiture & Intelligence. In this role, Commissioner Ryder proactively implemented multiple life-saving programs and initiatives, including the NCPD's Real-Time Intelligence system, the R.E.A.C.H. program, the Civilian Intelligence Analyst program, the DNA Collection Initiative. He also oversaw creation of the counter-terrorism unit, think tank, and the department's Criminal Intelligence and Rapid Response Team.
In 2017, Ryder was named acting police commissioner, before being appointed police commissioner in a full-time capacity in February 2018.
Crime in Nassau County reached historic lows with the help of the many initiatives and programs Commissioner Ryder worked to create. In 2022, Nassau County was rated as "the Safest Community in America" by U.S. News and World Report for the third consecutive year.
In addition to his work at the NCPD, Commissioner Ryder currently sits on the advisory board for criminal justice at SUNY Farmingdale and has been a counter-terrorism lecturer at the University of Maryland Center for Health and Homeland Security. Commissioner Ryder is a NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services-Certified Law Enforcement Instructor, a NYS Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst, a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, and has top secret clearance with the FBI's New York Field Office. He has also been deputized as an IRS Criminal Investigator and has trained law enforcement officers from Egypt, Tajikistan, Tunisia, South Africa, and Turkey.
The ASIS Long Island Chapter Person of the Year Dinner will take place on 24 April 2025 at 6:00pm at The Wantagh Inn. Tickets are available here.
