Free program to address Act’s intent, protections it affords, and how it is being applied
Alexandria, VA (August 10, 2018)—ASIS International, the world’s largest association for security management professionals, today announced it will hold a free webinar, The SAFETY Act and the MGM Lawsuit: What It Means for You and your Organization, on Tuesday, August 21 at 11:00 am ET.
Led by Brian Finch, partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, the 60-minute ASIS webinar will review why the Act was created, protections afforded to ASIS certified professionals and their employers—as well as those who use ASIS Standards and Guidelines—and potential implications of the MGM case.
“The SAFETY Act has garnered significant attention lately due to its potential first use in lawsuits arising out of last year’s Las Vegas mass shooting,” says Finch, “along with a lot of confusion about who exactly the law protects and how it can be used. I appreciate the opportunity to work with ASIS to educate attendees about the SAFETY Act and answer any questions about what is and is not covered by the law.”
Created in 2002, the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology Act, otherwise known as the SAFETY Act, provides important legal liability protections for providers of Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technologies—whether they are products or services. The act provides specific liability protections to organizations that employ professionals that are ASIS certified or uses ASIS security standards.
The program will feature 45 minutes of discussion, followed by Q&A.
