The ASIS Asia Pacific Conference 2024 is just around the corner! Security professionals from across the region will gather to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the industry. We sat down with Danny Chan, CPP, who is an ASIS Global Board Director, and heavily involved in the APAC region, to talk about the upcoming event and why you should attend.

Q: What are the latest security trends happening in APAC right now?

In 2024, the APAC region is seeing several notable physical security trends, namely:

  1. Convergence of IT and physical security is accelerating, with organizations integrating these functions to enhance risk mitigation and data optimization.
  1. Modernizing access control remains a top priority, with many shifting to hybrid-cloud models for more flexible and secure solutions.
  1. The democratization of physical security data is also significant, enabling more employees to engage with security technologies and data. This trend is driven by the need to address labor shortages and optimize resource use. Additionally, AI and automation are playing a crucial role in improving threat detection and response capabilities.

These trends reflect a strategic shift towards more integrated, efficient, and technologically advanced physical security measures in the region.

Q: How will this conference help security practitioners stay ahead?

Attending the ASIS AP Conference offers numerous benefits for practitioners aiming to stay ahead in the field. Our conference provides insights into the latest trends and threats, helping professionals stay informed about emerging risks and innovative defense strategies. Conferences also offer networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with peers, share experiences, and learn how others are tackling similar challenges.

Moreover, participants can explore cutting-edge security tools and platforms, gaining hands-on experience and understanding how to implement these solutions effectively. Hearing from industry leaders and experts through keynotes and panel discussions provides valuable perspectives and actionable advice.

Overall, our conference is a strategic way to enhance knowledge, build professional relationships, and stay at the forefront of the ever-evolving security landscape.

Q: In past years, what has been your favorite part about attending ASIS APAC?

While I love to attend conferences myself, many security practitioners often highlight a few favorite aspects. Networking is a big one—meeting like-minded professionals and exchanging ideas can be incredibly enriching. Hands-on workshops and demos are also popular, as they provide practical experience with the latest tools and technologies.

Another favorite is the keynote sessions where industry leaders share their insights and future trends. These talks can be both inspiring and informative, offering a glimpse into the direction the industry is heading.

Lastly, the sense of the ASIS community and the opportunity to discuss challenges and solutions with peers is something that I and many members value highly.

The event will take place 4-5 November 2024 at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel.
