ASIS Leads Effort to Explore Future of Security Education

Alexandria, Va. 2016-02-09

ASIS International (ASIS), the largest membership organization for security management professionals that crosses industry sectors, will host an "unconference" Open Space Forum for security education, research, and training professionals (SERT) at the Georgetown Hotel & Conference Center on June 7-8, 2016 in Washington, D.C. The Open Space format encourages the exchange of diverse ideas and opinions to solve the complex, ill-structured problems central to security education. The critical question for this event is, "What are the essential challenges for SERT professionals worldwide?"

"All too often the security world has acted in pockets, yet security is a global issue of concern to every organization in every country. And courses have emerged all over the world at different levels to meet different needs. Research has been behind the curve but is catching up. Yet there have been few attempts to reflect on where security has been going and where it is going," observes Professor Martin Gill, director, Perpetuity Research & Consultancy International (PRCI) Ltd. "This event provides a rare opportunity to engage in high-level dialogue with some of the world's leading experts and begin the process of setting the agenda for the security of the future."

"The ASIS Open Space Forum offers SERT professionals the gift of time and space to think, explore, and connect to the issues that matter to the security industry. ASIS International seeks to bring together the key stakeholders in SERT around the world to identify the top-priority issues and consolidate efforts to resolve those challenges," states Kay Burgess, Director of Education Programs for ASIS International.

Participants will network with like-minded colleagues and security industry leaders as well as those new to the field.  The Forum will result in a focused set of objectives for future research, training and/or education in the security industry. Ongoing follow-up events and forum proceedings will be published and distributed widely by ASIS International.

SERT professionals with a passion for improving security education are encouraged to register online. For more information about the Open Space format, access the recorded ASIS Open Space Forum webcast on the registration page.
